A New Riot

Riot: a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.
R. I. O. T.: Righteous Invasion Of Truth
Love Riot: A crowd of Biblical believers living life like God loved

I  grew up listening to the basic Christian music of the 1990’s. Rich Mullins, Keith Greene, and DC Talk just to name a few. If I’m honest, two modern bands that are circulating now in the Christian music world today, I listened to then. Toby Mac, and Michael Tait of the Newsboys. One of DC’s songs, Jesus Freaks is still to this day one of my all time favorites. Why? Is it the words, the amps, the bass, the drums?
It was the message.
John the Baptist, was the first “Jesus Freak” if we were to call him that. He shared the gospel of Christ even until his death by Herod. Now if we were to hear the original song by DC Talk and not the Newsboys, (yes they do perform a rendition of this song) you can see John’s description here:

There was a man from the desert with naps in his head
The sand that he walked was also his bed
The words that he spoke made the people assume
There wasn't too much left in the upper room
With skins on his back and hair on his face
They thought he was strange by the locusts he ate
The Pharisees tripped when they heard him speak
Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak

You may be wondering why I’m writing about this, a non-writing post, on a writing blog, during a month-long fictional theme? Over the weekend, I heard about almost 35 Coptic Christians in Egypt were beheaded because of the truth and life of Jesus Christ. His death, resurrection, and the entire fact that He is God. They were willing to die, not deny. My question is, how many of us here in America are willing to do the same? Probably when the rubber met the road, not many. We are, in fact in an army. Everyone on earth is a soldier in TWO camps. God’s and Satan’s. Satan’s mission is simple. Kill. Steal. Destroy. God had something else. Redemption.

Redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ. The perfect man on earth. The Son of God. It was because they believed in God the Father. They believed in Jesus Christ. They believed in the Holy Spirit, and that He has given them new life. They believed in the crucifixion, they believed that He conquered death. They believed in the resurrection, and that He was coming back again, they believed.

We’re all sinners. The only one that is perfect who has walked the face of this earth is Jesus Himself. Are we reaching others like Christ did? Are we willing to live like Christ did? To love like He did?

I want to be so unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, be so committed, that:
I’m crazy to want to live with abandon.
To say my life needed a restart.
That wanting to change the world is not impossible.
To have a love for others that’s so real it starts a riot.
That my Master made me a Fisher of Men.
To say that I’m guilty because I believe,
That God’s Not Dead.

  1. Honestly, one of my greatest fears is that I couldn't stand for Him when pinch came to snuff. May God's stregnth fill all who enter such sitations.
    God bless you and them.
